Bryant Wins Sport Compact Shootout At Southern Oregon; Mallett, Hudson, Cobb, And Knight Also Get Travel Medford Night Wins

White City, Oregon (September 14th, 2024)—Burnie Bryant was challenged heavily in the last handful of laps of the Sport Compact Shootout at Southern Oregon Speedway for the Kona Bento Sport Compacts but in the end, he held on to the top spot. The Sutherlin sensation took the lead on lap one and led the entire way but dealt with some fast contenders and several restarts.
Bryant held a consistent lead for the majority of the feature but would feel a lot of heat from Charles Trissell. Trissell tried his best to get under and past the pacesetter, but Bryant was a tad better in the middle of the track.
The two went side by side for several circuits. Bryant mastered the final lap and was first to the double-checkers.
Trissell was a valiant second, followed by Randy Kuhl, who was third.
There were two Speedway Motors IMCA Weekly racing classes on the card for Travel Medford Night. Jacob Mallet Jr. won the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, while Jeffrey Hudson got the job done in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods.
Mallet had no issues getting to the front at the drop of the green in the IMCA Modified main. He did have two cautions slow him down, but they proved to be the only two instances when he was presented with a challenge.
The restarts were no issue for the young man from Oakley, California as he peddled to a healthy advantage and won his fourth victory at a fourth different track in the Shaw Race Cars Western Region this year.
Jimmy Lipke managed to finish second. Steve Borror ended his night third.
John Wilson kicked off the IMCA Northern SportMod finale with a fantastic run in the early goings. Wilson held on to the coveted top position until Jacob Shandy got underneath him on the third circuit after a brief battle.
Shandy was able to get away as Hudson, Wilson, and Ryan Peery all duked it out for second. The new trailblazer's advantage was taken away on a lap six stoppage.
On the restart, Hudson and Peery went toe to toe again for the runner-up spot. Hudson eventually secured second on lap seven, and the next time around the third turn of the 3/8-mile clay oval obtained the lead.
As Hudson cruised around the track, Ethan Killingsworth had an incredible double overtake to move into second on the tenth trip past the flag stand.
Hudson was able to pull away to a healthy lead and had no issues in traffic. But a late race twist was in the mix as the caution waved for the last time with just three laps remaining.
On the restart, the Keno driver hit all his marks as he put the Scott Flowers fielded entry into victory lane for the first time this season.
Killingsworth stood firm as he and Peery battled hard for second place in the final stages.
The Outlaw Pro Stocks and Rapp Racing Super 4's were also in action. Rusty Azevedo and Rikki-Lynn Knight were the winners.
Johnny Cobb used the high side to his advantage to strike first in the Outlaw Pro Stock main event. But Jeff Haudenschild found a way around him the next time around.
Quintyn Ericks stepped up on a restart to take the torch with twelve laps complete. The young man did his best to stay out front, but Azevedo submitted a late race bid. The Bonanza driver got around Ericks on the eighteenth circuit and kept his mount in front.
Haudenshild made a last-lap maneuver to grab second, with Ericks credited with third.
The Rapp Racing Super 4's had Cliff Massey off to a great start in their feature. But Massey would lose his advantage in lapped traffic. Dustin Knight got around him on lap eleven while using some slower cars as picks.
Massey and Rikki-Lynn Knight fought for second while the new leader tried to take off. Unfortunately, Massey spun out during the battle, resulting in a late race yellow.
Rikki-Lynn got under her husband Dustin to move into first place on the restart. Dustin tried his best to recover the top spot, but his wife held on for the win.
Dustin Knight was second, and Massey recovered to third.
